The iconic York Peppermint Pattie was born in York, Pennsylvania, in 1940, created by Henry Kessler's York Cone Company. Kessler famously instituted a "snap test" for each pattie; only those that broke cleanly in half were deemed perfect for sale, ensuring a consistent, refreshing experience. Initially sold regionally, its unique cool mint and dark chocolate combination quickly gained popularity. In 1972, the York Cone Company was acquired by Peter Paul, who then launched the Peppermint Pattie nationally in 1975, coining the memorable "Get the Sensation" slogan. The brand eventually joined the Hershey Company's portfolio in 1988, where it continues to be a beloved and globally recognized confection, with an estimated 1.5 billion patties produced annually.
