Herbert's Best is a brand extension of The Mederer Group, founded by Willy Mederer in 1948 in Germany, who originally delighted customers with peppermint fondant. His son, Herbert Mederer, took over in 1984 and is credited with revolutionizing the gummy candy market, earning the prestigious Candy Kettle Award in 1993 for his creative, pioneering work, like the Trolli Sour Glühwürmchen. The "Herbert's Best" name in North America specifically honors Herbert Mederer, who began local production of his signature Trolli gummi candies in the US in 1986 after their popularity grew with American soldiers stationed overseas.
