Sugar Daddy Candy

The Sugar Daddy was created in 1925 by The James O. Welch Company. It was originally called the "Papa Sucker." In 1932, the company changed the name to Sugar Daddy, a term that was slang at the time and suggested generosity and "a wealth of sweetness," according to Tootsie Roll Industries.

Over the years, the company was sold to Nabisco in 1963, then to Warner-Lambert in 1988, and finally acquired by Tootsie Roll Industries in 1993.
