Sixlets, the candy-coated, chocolate-flavored confection, were first introduced around the 1960s by Leaf Brands, Inc. The treats originally came in a cellophane package containing precisely six pieces, which is the most widely accepted theory for how the candy earned its name. After the Leaf Brands U.S. division was acquired by Hershey in 1996, Sixlets changed ownership again and are now manufactured by Oak Leaf Confections, a Chocolat Frey company. Unlike many similar candies, Sixlets boast a unique, slightly malted taste and are often noted for their vibrant, solid-color shells, making them a popular choice for baking and event decorating.
