The iconic Reese's Peanut Butter Cups were invented in 1928 by Harry Burnett Reese in his basement in Hershey, Pennsylvania. A former dairy employee of Milton S. Hershey, Reese initially used Hershey's chocolate for his confectionery, and the cups were sold as "Penny Cups." During World War II, due to sugar rationing, Reese discontinued his other products to focus solely on the popular Peanut Butter Cups. This focus proved brilliant, and in 1963, his six sons sold the thriving H.B. Reese Candy Company to The Hershey Company.
