Hubba Bubba was first introduced by the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company in the United States in 1979 to compete in the growing bubble gum market. The name was inspired by the World War II military phrase "Hubba Hubba," an exclamation of approval. Its main selling point was a formula that was less sticky than competitors, leading to the famous slogan, "Big bubbles, no troubles." This non-stick quality and the introduction of the popular six-foot Bubble Tape format in 1988 helped make Hubba Bubba the number one selling bubble gum brand in the US for a time.
