Ford Gum & Machine Co. began in 1913 when Ford Mason, a roofing salesman, started a side business leasing gumball machines. He quickly saw the need for better quality gum and more reliable vending machines, so he and his father, designed and patented a new machine. The company grew, and in 1934, they established their Lockport, New York headquarters. Ford Gum is a pioneer in the industry, credited with being the first to print on the side of a gumball and for popularizing charitable fundraising through their vending machines. Today, they are the only large-scale gumball manufacturer in the US.
