Efrutti is a modern brand of gummy candy created by The Mederer Group, a German confectionery company whose roots trace back to 1948. Initially, the company started by producing pasta after World War II rationing, before quickly shifting to candy production. The Efrutti brand itself was introduced to North America in 2003, with innovative, food-shaped novelty gummies like the Mini Burger and the Lunch Bag Theme Bag among its first offerings. Herbert Mederer, the second-generation owner, was instrumental in developing these fun, unique gummy concepts, leading to his 2003 induction into the Candy Hall of Fame.
