Chupa Chups, meaning "to suck" in Spanish, was founded in 1958 by confectioner Enric Bernat, who solved the messy problem of children getting sticky hands by putting a sweet on a stick. The original flavors included strawberry and lemon, but the brand’s most iconic feature came in 1969 when the world-renowned surrealist artist Salvador Dalí designed its instantly recognizable daisy logo, insisting it be placed on top of the wrapper for maximum visibility. The Spanish lollipop has since expanded globally, even becoming the first candy to be consumed by Russian cosmonauts aboard the Mir space station in 1995.
