Choward's or C. Howard Company Inc. was founded in the early 1930s by Charles Howard in a small loft in New York City. His mission was to create a truly "unique and different flavored candy," which led to the creation of Choward's Violet, a floral-flavored mint that he initially sold from a street cart. The product's success led to the introduction of Choward's Scented Gum, a purple-colored gum tablet. Today, the company remains a family concern, run by the nephews of a long-time employee. Choward's continues to produce the same classic confections that have delighted generations.
