Atkinson Candy Company, a fourth-generation family-run business, was founded in 1932 by B.E. and Mabel Atkinson during the Great Depression. They saw candy as an affordable luxury everyone could enjoy, starting as a candy jobber before manufacturing their own sweets. Their timeless recipes, like the iconic Chick-O-Stick (originally known as "chicken bones" before a name change for wider distribution in the 1950s) and Peanut Butter Bars, became beloved. Atkinson Candy also notably acquired rights to produce the classic Mary Jane candies in 2019, ensuring these nostalgic treats continue delighting new generations. They remain committed to quality and tradition, still making candy in small batches from their Lufkin, Texas, facility.
