Annabelle Candy was founded in 1950 in San Francisco by Russian immigrant Sam Altshuler, who named the company after his daughter. Building on experiments he'd begun in 1918, Altshuler created the iconic Rocky Road bar, quickly a West Coast favorite. The company expanded its beloved portfolio through acquisitions, notably purchasing Golden Nugget Company in 1972 to add Big Hunk and Look! bars, and Cardinet Candy Company in 1978 for U-No and the distinctive Abba-Zaba. Despite recent news about the Hayward factory's closure, Annabelle's legacy of nostalgic treats continues under its parent company, Promise Confections, aiming to preserve these cherished candies for future generations.
