Andes Mints, the iconic three-layered chocolate and mint candy, originated in Chicago. Founded in 1921 by Andrew Kanelos, his candy business was initially named "Andy's Candies." However, he quickly realized that his predominantly male customers didn't enjoy giving boxes of candy bearing another man's name to their loved ones. To remedy this, he cleverly changed the name to "Andes Candies," evoking images of exotic, snow-capped mountains. The beloved Crème de Menthe mints, with their distinctive green center, were officially introduced in 1950 and have since become a popular after-dinner treat. Andes Mints joined the Tootsie Roll Industries family in 2000.
