Spangler Candy Company is an American confectioner originating in Bryan, Ohio, in 1906, when Arthur G. Spangler purchased the Gold Leaf Baking Powder Company for $450. Initially producing baking ingredients, the company shifted focus to candy in 1908 after Arthur's brother, Ernest, suggested it. Their first proprietary candy, the Cocoanut Ball, was introduced in 1911. The company officially became Spangler Candy Company in 1920. A pivotal moment came in 1953 with the acquisition of Dum-Dums lollipops, which became their flagship product, establishing Bryan, Ohio, as the "Dum Dum Capital of the World." Still family-owned and operated, Spangler has also expanded its portfolio through acquisitions like Bit-O-Honey, and the iconic Necco Wafers and Sweethearts, continuing its century-long legacy of sweet innovation.
