The Twizzlers brand, a long-standing confectionary icon, was established in 1929 by the Young & Smylie company, one of America's oldest candy firms, founded back in 1845. The original product was a black licorice twist, but the famous strawberry flavor was introduced in the 1970s and quickly became the brand's bestseller, now accounting for most annual production. In 1977, The Hershey Company acquired the brand, leading to product innovations like Pull 'n' Peel. The candy even set a Guinness World Record in 1998 for the longest licorice twist at 1,200 feet.
